“After 30 years of smoking, I wanted to set a new example for my family. I didn’t want them to struggle with COPD like I do. I didn’t want them to struggle with any other smoking-related illness for that matter! With help, I’m enjoying my sixth month as a non-smoker. In the process of quitting, I realized that my addiction was psychological as well as physical. I found out that I needed to overcome my old behaviors. My quitline coach helped me develop a plan to deal with being around other smokers. Now whenever I meet another smoker, I turn in the opposite direction and pop a mint in my mouth.”
